Every day, 22 veterans take their own lives, leaving countless families and communities shattered. Traditional approaches aren’t enough to address the deeper struggles they face. At BusiNeighbor, we believe in the transformative power of Recreational Therapy to bring healing, purpose, and joy to those who have served.

We are on a mission to open a Veterans Recreation Center—a safe space to improve mental health, foster connection, and release the happiness and hope our heroes deserve. This is more than a project; it’s a lifeline.

A Crisis We Cannot Ignore

Understanding Veterans' Silent Struggles

Do you know their Enemy? Isolation, pain, suffering, depression, survivors guilt, Suicide...

At BusiNeighbor Inc., we understand the critical role of addressing feelings of alienation. Traditional solutions like crisis hotlines, therapy, and medications play a vital role, but they often fail to address the deeper emotional and psychological wounds that many veterans carry. It's clear that more needs to be done.

At BusiNeighbor, we saw firsthand the transformative power of Recreational Therapy. This approach provides not just an outlet for stress but a pathway to healing, joy, and connection. Engaging in recreational activities reduces stress hormones, improves mental health, and fosters overall well-being.

In 2017, we opened the BusiNeighbor Veterans Recreation Center—a sanctuary for veterans to form meaningful connections, relax, and heal in a supportive environment. This center featured:

  • An exercise room to promote physical health and improve quality of life.

  • A computer lab & a reading library to help veterans develop new skills.

  • A television lounge with massage chairs for relaxation.

  • A day room with board games and cards to form friendships with other Veterans.

The center became a refuge for many veterans who were hesitant to take medications due to side effects or found traditional group therapy sessions at the VA left them feeling more isolated. At the BusiNeighbor Veterans Recreation center, Veterans found a place where they could share experiences, regain a sense of purpose, and belong to a community outside the hospital setting or home alone

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why is the organization called BusiNeighbor?

BusiNeighbor represents the powerful partnership between business owners and the community, where local businesses come together as neighbors, offering their support for Veterans' lives.

Why a center? Can veterans go to the VA hospital for recreational therapy?

While the VA offers recreational therapy as part of rehabilitation, it often involves working with a rehabilitation therapist in a structured medical setting. The BusiNeighbor Veterans Recreation Center is a vital 'fourth place'—beyond home, work, or hospital—where Veterans can have a place to call their own helping them overcome painful thoughts, isolation and suicide.

How did this vision start?

Inspired by the loss of a beloved father figure - brother-in-arms, BusiNeighbor is devoted to providing Veterans with a lifeline—a safe haven for healing, connection, and reclaiming purpose in the face of pain.

I am a veteran. Can my spouse/partner attend the center with me?

Absolutely! At the BusiNeighbor Veterans Recreation Center, we honor the strength of veterans and their families, welcoming spouses to partner with us in creating a supportive space for healing.

Why was the first center a home?

We opened our first center in a home because "Home is the starting place of love, hope, and dreams," creating a warm, welcoming space where Veterans feel valued, supported, and empowered to reclaim their life.
